Ana Carvalho is a visual artist, academic and web designer. She also organizes events as part of several collectives. Ana Carvalho was born in Porto, Portugal. She travels to experience different cultures and languages as a lifestyle.

Web based work explores the common space between art and design either through design projects of Visual Agency or as in her web based art projects. Major themes in the art work of Ana Carvalho are emotional celebrations in daily life, women's achievements, fictional biography and ways of knowing. Art projects evidence process as art and are presented in several media and some of the art projects are presented in more than one medium: live visual performances, installations, videos and on the Internet.

Ana's friends are also interested in Art; It's the way they see life worth living.

The most well know of Ana's collective projects is no doubt VJ Theory that she co-edit with Brendan Byrne about VJing and realtime performance and the philisophy and theory that informs and are informed by the practice.

She is one of four members of Art in Hidden Places: through art events, together with Brendan, Magda and Ben, the group attempts to create a network for artists to communicate, collaborate and create works in public spaces.

She organizes abertura, a VJing and realtime performance in Lisbon, Portugal with Elsa Vieira (aka MonkeyFish).

With Amy Hughes and Synnove Mathe prepared a weekend where people, from several coutries, came to Lancaster University to explore through presentations and conversations, the areas where art and politics come together.
